澤羅利 joined AC Milan from Atalanta in 2019 and has since become an important player for the Rossoneri, scoring 17 goals in 63 appearances for the club. His current contract expires in 2024, but AC Milan are keen to tie him down to a longer-term deal.
The Italian media report that AC Milan have opened negotiations with Zerrouli's agent and are hopeful of reaching an agreement soon. The club are understood to be willing to offer the striker a significant pay rise to stay at the San Siro.
AC Milan sporting director Paolo Maldini has spoken highly of Zerrouli, describing him as an "exceptional talent" and saying that the club are committed to building a team around young, homegrown players.
"We are delighted with his progress and believe he has a great future at AC Milan," Maldini said. "We want to keep him here for a long time."
Zerrouli's agent, however, has remained tight-lipped about the talks, saying only that "there is nothing new to report at the moment".
The news of AC Milan's interest in extending Zerrouli's contract comes just a few weeks after the club announced that they had reached an agreement to sign 20-year-old midfielder Ismael Bennacer from Entente Setif for an estimated €15 million.
Bennacer, who has represented Algeria at international level, is seen as a key part of AC Milan's plans to rebuild the team and has signed a five-year contract with the option for a further year.
AC Milan finished second in Serie A last season but were unable to qualify for the Champions League due to a ban for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations. They are currently fifth in the table, four points behind leaders Inter Milan.
